Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
You cannot control the external world, but you can control your thoughts
Obsessive Compulsive disorder is the experience of unwanted yet repeated thoughts, feelings and images or sensations leading to compulsive behaviours or mental acts in response which if not acted upon can cause extreme anxiety.
OCD can be anything from compulsive cleaning, perfectionism at work or in appearance to washing a 100 times a day etc
Someone with OCD will usually experience frequent thoughts and compulsive behaviours.
- Obsession is an unwanted & unpleasant thought, image, urge, worry, fear or doubt that repeatedly enters the Mind, causing feelings of anxiety, mental discomfort or disgust or unease.
- A compulsion is a repetitive behaviour or mental act that a person feels they need to do to temporarily relieve the unpleasant feelings brought on by the obsessive thought.
- Consciously we may not know what the anxious feeling is as it maybe an emotional flashback and a bad belief that we created in our subconscious mind that has created OCD to keep us safe.
The causes of OCD may be more common in people who have been bullied, neglected, abused, being in danger (or feelings of being in danger) as a child. Often feelings of helplessness, being unsafe or out of control are the root cause. Also childbirth or bereavement can set off OCD too.
OCD is a coping mechanism when you cant control what is happening internally (or sometimes externally e.g. when a child is stuck and cannot change something about their emotional or physical environment, it can affect men women and children.
We have to remind ourselves that "You can't control the weather, you can't control the traffic". You may not be able to directly control your body because if you did you'd never get a cold or a headache. However, you can control your thoughts. If you take control of your thoughts you will never fear being out of control, because the only thing you ever can control is your thoughts.
The role of control is that the only thing you can control is your thoughts. Your thoughts control your feelings; your feelings control your actions; your actions control your events.
When you take control of your thoughts, it changes your entire life. When you make your thoughts positive it makes your life positive. What's so amazing is that it starts out as what you do, but then becomes who you are.
Therapy with the right therapist is incredibly helpful and you don’t need to spend years on a therapist’s coach. One of the ways in which Rapid Transformational Therapy gets fast and permanent results, is that it addresses the root cause and then looks at the role, function and purpose of the issue playing out. We learn to get our minds and bodies working for us, not against us. Our mind’s primary purpose is to try to protect us and keep us safe, to prevent us being at risk or in danger. Our symptoms are usually our body’s way of communicating with us that something needs addressing. I always say that understanding is power and the understanding gained throughRapid Transformational Therapy can have the most liberating transformative power to improve lives quickly and permanently.
